The Calories In A Full Meal At A Chain Restaurant [INFOGRAPHIC]

The RAND Corporation, which has recently done some excellent work on obesity in America, has a neat, though disturbing, infographic comparing the average meal at a chain restaurant to our daily recommended amounts.

A four-course meal consisting of a smoothie, salad, burger and dessert has nearly four times the calories of the recommended targets for one meal.

We think this meal is a bit excessive, but the individual caloric intake of each dish (including 800 calories for an appetizer-size salad) is an eye-opener.

If this is how most Americans eat once a week, it's clear why the country continues to get fatter and fatter.
